Analysis of current situation and development prospect of adhesive industry in China

1. the industrial chain
Adhesives, also known as adhesives, are often referred to as adhesives in daily life, which are based on adhesives, with various additives such as curing agents, plasticizers and fillers, and can closely combine the same or different kinds of materials together, widely used in manufacturing, furniture, construction, automobiles, electrical/electronics, packaging and consumer goods and other fields. Adhesives can be divided into epoxy resin adhesives, polyurethane adhesives, acrylic adhesives, silicone adhesives and synthetic rubber adhesives according to their composition. According to the curing method, it can be divided into solvent volatile, chemical reaction type and hot melt type. According to the bonding strength can be divided into structural adhesives and non-structural adhesives. From the perspective of the industrial chain, the upstream industry of the adhesive industry is mainly a basic chemical raw material manufacturer, chemical raw materials including silicone, synthetic resin, acrylic acid and acrylate, MDI, TDI, solvent oil, additives and monomers. Downstream application areas are extremely wide, including construction, building materials, textiles, shoemaking, packaging, printing and binding, aerospace, electronic manufacturing, automobiles, machinery, sporting goods and other fields.

2. Upstream analysis
Acrylic acid is one of the most important basic raw materials and intermediates in modern chemical industry, and it is also an important raw material for various resins, rubber and polymer compounds. Because of its active polarity, unsaturated double bond and carboxylic acid structure, acrylic acid has excellent polymerization and esterification function, and many kinds of acrylic acid compounds can be derived. With the sustained development of China's economy and the steady increase of national strength, the capacity of domestic acrylic acid has begun to gradually expand, and the domestic acrylic acid capacity will be about 3.5 million tons in 2020. In 2021, the acrylic acid production capacity is 3.6 million tons, and the capacity increase rate is 2.86%.

Synthetic resin, is a class of synthetic polymer compounds, is both or more than the natural resin inherent characteristics of a resin, but also an important raw material for adhesives. In recent years, the production of synthetic resin in China has shown an increasing trend year by year. Data show that in 2021, China's synthetic resin production was 107,654,000 tons, an increase of 4%.

3. Midstream analysis
According to the statistics of the adhesive and adhesive tape Industry Association, since 2010, China's adhesive production has maintained a rapid growth of more than 4%, and the output of China's adhesive industry will reach 10.63 million tons in 2021.

4. Downstream analysis
The downstream application fields of adhesives are extremely wide, including construction, building materials, textiles, shoemaking, packaging, printing and binding, aerospace, electronic manufacturing, automobiles, machinery, sporting goods and other fields. The construction (29%) and packaging (35%) sectors have the highest demand.
