Co-hosted by the China Adhesive and Adhesive Tape Industry Association and the Ningbo Adhesive and Products Industry Association, these two specialized adhesive conferences— "The 16th Polyurethane Adhesive Technology and Information Seminar" and "The 8th Water-based Adhesive Professional Forum" —opened at the Shaoxing Shimao Crowne Plaza Hotel. The conferences, themed "Integrated Development of Technological Innovation and Green Transformation" and "Multi-dimensional Empowerment for a High-quality Future of Water-based Adhesives," attracted nearly 260 representatives from production enterprises, raw material suppliers, end-users, research institutions, and material testing and inspection organizations in the polyurethane adhesive and water-based adhesive fields.
The global synthetic adhesive industry is currently witnessing two core development trends: high-performance enhancement and eco-friendly transformation. In the realm of high-performance advancements, polyurethane adhesives have emerged as industry-recognized multifunctional materials. Their advantages—including diverse raw material options, flexible formulation combinations, extensive product varieties, and adjustable performance characteristics—have enabled their widespread application across solvent-based, solvent-free (including hot-melt and reactive types), water-based systems, and sealing solutions. Regarding environmental sustainability, water-based adhesives stand out as a crucial category. Amid tightening environmental regulations, developed countries are actively advancing R&D efforts to overcome technical bottlenecks. Chinese manufacturers in this sector are also continuously developing innovative products, expanding application scenarios, and introducing multiple groundbreaking solutions.
To promote innovative development in the industry and strengthen industrial chain collaboration, the China Adhesive and Adhesive Tape Industry Association has, in recent years, jointly organized professional exchange activities through its affiliated Polyurethane Adhesive Professional Committee and Polymer Emulsion Adhesive Professional Committee, aiming to achieve a "1+1 greater than 2" effect. For hot and challenging topics, industry experts and renowned scholars are invited to engage in in-depth discussions with participants on market prospects and technical routes, collectively driving the adhesive industry toward high-quality and sustainable development.
At the 16th Polyurethane Adhesive Technology and Information Symposium, Ms.Yuan Peiling, Secretary-General of Ningbo Adhesive and Products Industry Association, delivered the opening address. She highlighted that the industry is currently at a critical juncture of "innovation-driven development and green transformation". Water-based adhesives, as representatives of eco-friendly products, embody expectations for high-quality growth, while polyurethane adhesives continue to expand into emerging application fields through their superior performance. The concurrent hosting of the two symposiums, focusing on the "multi-dimensional empowerment" of water-based adhesives and the "technological innovation and green transition" of polyurethane adhesives, represents a significant collaborative effort in industry development. As a major industrial hub, Ningbo has consistently prioritized technological advancements and market integration in these two fields. Ms.Yuan emphasized that industry progress requires coordinated efforts across the supply chain and collaboration between academia, industry, and research institutions. From raw material innovation to process breakthroughs, breakthroughs demand intellectual exchanges and resource alignment. She urged participants to leverage this forum opportunity for in-depth discussions and consensus-building, aiming to jointly drive collaborative innovation in water-based and polyurethane adhesives, accelerate the commercialization of cutting-edge technologies, and inject new momentum into the industry's green, intelligent, and high-end development.
Yang Xu, Secretary-General of the China Adhesive and Tape Industry Association, stated in his opening remarks at the conference that in recent years, with the joint efforts of all colleagues, China's polyurethane adhesive industry has achieved rapid development. With the continuous expansion of the industry scale and the accelerating pace of technological innovation and industrialization, China has become a pivotal R&D and production base in the global polyurethane adhesive sector. Currently, we are at a critical juncture where the "14th Five-Year Plan" concludes and the "15th Five-Year Plan" begins. During this strategic opportunity period, the association has meticulously organized 20 thematic reports to build a high-level exchange platform for scientific research breakthroughs and industrial upgrading in polyurethane adhesives. He hopes that entrepreneurs and industry peers will accurately grasp policy guidance, strengthen their confidence in development, and boldly explore innovative applications of polyurethane adhesives in new fields and scenarios. Together, we should deepen industrial chain collaboration, promote the deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application, jointly cultivate new growth drivers for the industry, and collectively advance its high-quality development.
The morning session of the conference featured four specialized presentations, chaired by Wang Jiafu, Deputy General Manager of Shandong Northern Modern Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. Professor Wang Guiyou from East China University of Science and Technology highlighted the structural characteristics, development trajectory, and cutting-edge technologies of polyurethane adhesives, with particular emphasis on their functional applications. Mao Haiyan, Deputy General Manager of the Business Division at Shanghai Huidi Technology (603192) Co., Ltd., presented innovative solutions for polyester polyols – a key raw material in polyurethane production. Yu Weiqiang, Deputy Director of Shandong Northern Modern Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., and Chen Jiahao, Technical Service Manager of Huntsman Polyurethane Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, respectively showcased practical application solutions for polyurethane adhesives and sealants from a user perspective.
Starting at 3 PM, 16 universities and enterprises including Baduifu, Hubei Huifu, TA Instruments, Hangzhou Zhijiang, Beijing Gaomeng, Zhengzhou University, Sika, Guangzhou Weizhi, Zhejiang Jianyang, Chengdu Silan, Bick Additives, Yantai Debang, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (CAS), Guangzhou Jitai, and Shanghai Jianlong will present insightful reports. Liu Pengkai, Chairman of the Polymer Emulsion Adhesive Professional Committee and Director of Jiangsu Heisonglin Adhesive Co., Ltd., delivered the opening address at the 8th Water-based Adhesive Professional Forum. He highlighted that China's water-based adhesive industry is currently at a pivotal stage of policy-driven development, technological advancement, and demand upgrading. On one hand, the ongoing "dual carbon" goals and increasingly stringent environmental standards are creating broader market opportunities for eco-friendly water-based adhesives. On the other hand, downstream industries are raising demands for enhanced bonding performance, application efficiency, and cost control, presenting new challenges to the sector. Addressing these opportunities and challenges, Liu emphasized that "multi-dimensional empowerment" serves not only as a breakthrough strategy but also as the foundation for sustainable development. He sincerely hoped that industry peers would seize this forum as a platform to open dialogues, deepen practical collaborations, jointly tackle technological innovations, coordinate market expansion efforts, and build consensus on standardization. Together, they should inject new momentum and open up new horizons for the high-quality development of China's water-based adhesive industry.
Fu Xiaofang, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Adhesive and Adhesive Tape Industry Association, delivered the opening speech at the conference. She stated that China's adhesive and adhesive tape industry is currently at a critical juncture where opportunities and challenges coexist. Facing a complex and ever-changing market environment, industry peers have adhered to innovation as the driving force, with green, high-end, and intelligent development as the direction.
